23 Amazing Uses for Rosewood Essential Oil

Rosewood essential oilis steam distilled from the wood of the Brazilian rosewood tree, which is an endangered species ​(buy it here)​​​. This tree is known botanically as the Anibarosaeodora. The oil produced from this wonderful tree is especially good for treating skin disorders and improving skin health, but it has many other great uses.

It has analgesic, antibacterial, anticonvulsive, antidepressant, antimicrobial, antiseptic, aphrodisiac, bactericidal, cephalic, deodorant, insecticidal, stimulant and tonic therapeutic properties. Rosewood EO can be produced from wood shavings from the tree as a by-product. Please make certain the rosewood oil you buy was sourced responsibly.

1. Get Rid of Acne

Mix 2 to 3 drops of rosewood essential oil into 1 teaspoon of carrier oil. Moisturize with the blend twice each day after washing. You can use any type of carrier oil with rosewood. Jojoba is an excellent carrier oil for acne-prone skin as it helps regulate the production of sebum.

Sebum is the oily substance produced by our skin that causes acne. Argan oil also regulates sebum production but it is a lighter oil. You may prefer it, if you have oily skin.

2. Improve Skin Health and Appearance

Add 1 to 2 drops of rosewood essential oil to 1 teaspoon of carrier oil and use it to improve your skin’s overall health and appearance. Put a few drops of the blend in the palm of your hand, rub your hands together to warm it up then lightly pat it over your skin. Again, any carrier oil is fine for use with rosewood. You might like to try rosehip or rosehip seed oil with rosewood. It is very good for the skin.

*A 1% to 3% dilution rate (1 to 3 drops of essential oil per teaspoon of carrier oil) is fine for everyday use.Stronger dilution rates should only be used for 10 days to 2 weeks at a time.*

3. Treat Dermatitis, Eczema and Psoriasis

Use a 2% to 3% rosewood EO/carrier oil blend to treat eczema and psoriasis. Apply the blend twice each day. Coconut oil is an excellent carrier oil for eczema and psoriasis conditions as it has healing benefits of its own.

4. Reduce the Appearance of Scars

Apply the 2% to 3% rosewood essential oil/carrier oil blend to scars to improve their appearance. It actually enhances the skin’s ability to generate new, healthy skin cells. Rosehip oil is a good carrier oil for this use.

5. Improve Circulation

Practice rosewood essential oil aromatherapy to improve blood circulation. Put 1/4 to 1/2 cup of distilled water in your diffuser, add 4 to 6 drops or rosewood oil and turn it on for 30 to 60 minutes.  You can also add 10 drops of a 5% rosewood/carrier oil blend to a warm bath for this benefit.

6. Prevent Irritation to Sensitive Skin

Apply a 1% to 2% rosewood EO/carrier oil blend to sensitive skin to prevent irritation from heat, cold and dry weather as well as other common skin irritants.

7. Reduce Anxiety and Stress

Practice rosewood essential oil aromatherapy to reduce anxiety and stress. Add 4 to 6 drops to your diffuser, along with 1/4 to 1/2 cup of distilled water, and enjoy a relaxing 30- to 60-minute aromatherapy session. If you suffer from anxiety when you are away from home, take the rosewood essential oil bottle with you and inhale the vapors directly from it when you feel your anxiety or stress levels elevating.

8. Alleviate Fatigue

Use rosewood EO to alleviate fatigue. It provides this benefit in two ways: it relaxes you so you can get a good night’s sleep then it lifts your mood and helps you become more alert, putting a little pep in your step. Run your diffuser for 30 to 60 minutes before you go to bed then set it up so you can turn it on first thing in the morning. You can also add 10 drops of a 5% rosewood/carrier oil blend to warm bathwater and enjoy a relaxing bath before bed. Rosehip seed oil would be an excellent carrier oil for this use.

*Place a drop of a 2% rosewood essential oil/carrier oil blend on an inconspicuous area of skin andwait for at least a few hours to make sure you aren’t sensitive to it.*

9. Recover from Jet Lag

Practice rosewood essential oil aromatherapy to recover from jet lag more quickly. It helps your mind and body bounce back by helping you relax so that you can get a quick power nap here and there and also by boosting your ability to be alert when you are awake.

10. Get Relief from PMS

Take a warm, relaxing bath with 10 drops of a 5% rosewood/carrier oil blend added into the water for relief from emotional and physical discomforts associated with PMS. Rosewood aromatherapy can also help with this. Try applying a 2% to 3% rosewood essential oil/carrier oil blend to your abdomen and lower back for relief from cramps and lower back pain.

Gently apply a 5% rosewood essential oil/carrier oil blend to the site of pain for relief. For faster relief, blend 5 drops of rosewood EO into Aloe Vera gel then gently apply it to the painful area. Make sure it is Aloe Vera gel, not juice. It has to have a thick consistency. The rosewood oil will soak into your skin and begin working within 10 to 15 minutes when you use Aloe Vera gel. A 5% carrier oil blend can take an hour or two to take full effect.

16. Treat or Prevent Bacterial Infections

Use the 5% rosewood EO/carrier oil blend to treat or prevent bacterial infections in wounds or sores. Apply it several times a day for continuous protection. You can also use the rosewood oil Aloe Vera blend for this purpose.

17. Boost the Libido

Practice rosewood essential oil aromatherapy to give your libido a boost. Run your diffuser for 30 to 60 minutes before bed or enjoy the spicy floral aromatherapy while sharing a romantic meal with that special someone.

18. Improve your Immune System

Use rosewood essential oil as a tonic to stimulate and improve your immune system. Rosewood aromatherapy can be used for this as well as applying a 1% to 2% rosewood/carrier oil blend to the skin once or twice a day. Taking a warm bath with a few drops of the 1% to 2% rosewood/carrier oil blend can also benefit the immune system.

19. Alleviate Nerve Pain

Apply rosewood EO to areas with nerve pain. You can use a 5% rosewood/carrier oil blend or you can use the 5% rosewood/Aloe Vera blend for faster relief. A rosewood oil bath can also be beneficial, especially if the nerve pain is felt throughout the body.

20. Use as a Deodorant

Mix 1 teaspoon of rosewood essential oil with 1/2 cup of virgin, unrefined coconut oil and 1/2 cup of baking soda to make your own natural deodorant. The spicy-floral smell is very pleasant and rosewood’s antimicrobial, bactericidal and deodorant therapeutic properties make it an ideal essential oil for this purpose. You have to use non-fractionated coconut oil for this recipe. Fractionated coconut oil will not solidify.

21. Treat Insect Bites

Dab some 5% rosewood EO/Aloe Vera mixture on insect bites for immediate relief from pain and itching.

22. Repel Mosquitos and Flying Pests

Apply a 2% to 3% rosewood oil/carrier oil blend to your skin before you go outdoors to repel stinging and biting insects. You can also mix 1 teaspoon of rosewood EO and 1 teaspoon of coconut oil with about 1 cup of warm water, put it in a spray bottle and spray it on your skin. Shake it up well to thoroughly mix the oils before and while using the spray as the oils and water will, of course, separate.

23. Deodorize and Disinfect your Home

Mix 1 teaspoon of rosewood essential oil into a cup of warm water, shake it up and spray your home to disinfect it and make it smell wonderful. You can spray any hard surfaces with it and wipe them down, just like any other antiseptic spray. You can also spray it in stinky shoes and even add a few drops to your washing machine, along with your laundry detergent, to disinfect and deodorize smelly towels and socks.
