26 Wonderful Uses of Niaouli Essential Oil

Niaouli essential oil is steam distilled from the leaves and twigs of a tree known botanically as Melaleuca quinquenervia syn. M. viridiflora. It is also called MQV essential oil. Niaouli oil is used to treat pain, malaise, viral and bacterial infections, bronchitis, sinusitis, digestive disorders, neuralgia, arthritis and skin conditions.

It even kills intestinal parasites and insects. It has analgesic, anti-fungal, anti-rheumatic, antiseptic, bactericidal, balsamic, cicatrisant, decongestant, expectorant, febrifuge, insecticidal, stimulant, vermifuge and vulnerary therapeutic properties.

Niaouli is similar to tea tree and has similar beneficial uses but it is less likely to irritate the skin. Both are produced from a type of Melaleuca tree; however, they have different chemical constituents. Niaouli oil is higher in 1,8-cineole while tea tree oil is higher in terpinen-4-ol.

You can go to as high as 25% when diluting niaouli but you shouldn’t use that strength for more than two weeks. If you like, you can mix in a few drops of peppermint oil for cooling relief or lavender or helichrysum essential oils for added healing and pain-relieving benefits.
