Carrot seed oil is steam distilled from the seeds of the wild carrot plant or Queen Anne’s lace, known botanically as Daucuscarota (buy it here). It has anti-carcinogenic, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antiseptic, antiviral, carminative, cytophylactic, depurative, detoxifying, disinfectant, diuretic, emmenagogue, hypotensive, stimulant, tonic and vermifuge therapeutic properties.
Carrot seed essential oil isn’t one of the more commonly used aromatherapy oils, because many people don’t like its pungent, earthy scent. It blends nicely with other, more pleasant-smelling oils, though, like citrus oils, lavender (buy it here), geranium (buy it here), juniper (buy it here), cedarwood and spice oils.
