43 Unbelievable Uses of Melissa Essential Oil

Melissa essential oil is also commonly called lemon balm (buy it here). The botanical name of the plant that it is steam distilled from is Melissa officinalis. This oil has a fresh lemon fragrance that is very uplifting. It has antibacterial, antidepressant, antispasmodic, antiviral, bactericidal, carminative, diaphoretic, emmenagogue, febrifuge, hypotensive, nervine, sedative, stimulant, stomachic, sudorific and tonic medicinal properties. This is a wonderful oil that has been appreciated for over 2,000 years for all of its unbelievable uses.

1. Lower Blood Pressure

Ingest 1 to 2 drops of a high quality Melissa essential oil to lower your blood pressure ​(buy it here)​​​. You can also massage a 2% Melissa EO/carrier oil blend into your chest, shoulders and the back of your neck for this benefit.

2. Reduce the Risk of Getting Cancer and Tumors

There hasn’t been enough clinical research done to determine how best to use Melissa EO to help prevent or treat cancer, but there has been enough research done to show that it reduces the viability of glioblastoma multiforme cancer cells.

Practice Melissa essential oil aromatherapy and apply the 2% Melissa oil blend topically to help prevent viral infections. It may also speed recovery from colds and the flu.

Mix 2 drops of lemon balm EO with 1 teaspoon of coconut oil and apply it to the bottoms of your feet. It will encourage sweating, so be prepared.

*A 1% to 3% dilution rate (1 to 3 drops of essential oil per teaspoon of carrier oil) is fine for everyday use. Stronger dilution rates should only be used for 10 days to 2 weeks at a time.*
